Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler has said that Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in the world right now. The forward scored two goals against Celta de Vigo come as Madrid managed a comfortable 3-0 win to keep pace with table leaders Barcelona. Ronaldo has been in fine form over the last five years, while he has especially become deadly in the last few. He has already scored 20 league goals, which is one better than Diego Costa of Atletico Madrid, this campaign.
Ronaldo has already won the FIFA Ballon d’Or award once in his career and he is the favourite to do so this year around. His primary competitors Messi and Ribery are at a disadvantage in terms of the personal achievements in the last 12 months. The winner of the Ballon d’Or award will be announced on January 13. Fowler, who himself was regarded as a fine striker during his Liverpool days, stated that Ronaldo had everything to become the best.
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been spoken in the same breath as Ronaldo over the last few weeks, but Fowler reckons that Ronaldo is in a different league due to the amazing consistency he has shown in the last five years. Suarez has been showing the same form only for a few weeks.
“I have a soft corner for Cristiano. I think he deserved to win the Ballon D’Or. He has been fantastic throughout the season. I want Messi to do well. He has not done well for his country in the World Cup. I just think he will have a big World Cup this time. I feel Suarez is the current best EPL player. He can even get past my record of most Liverpool goals in the EPL if he continues to play for my club,” said Fowler.
